A Closer Look

What: Mystery shoppers are enlisted to review retail, restaurants, senior living facilities, and health clubs. It also drafts work-at-home editors and schedulers

Expected pay: Below minimum wage

Commissions & fees: None

Where: Nationwide

Requirements: Age 18 or over; access to computer; access to a scanner or digital camera

Review:

PROS:

  • Everyone works from home

CONS:

  • Pay is generally in the form of reimbursement only and it doesn’t always cover the costs
  • Schedulers and editors say they’re on call 24/7, seven days a week, and earn the equivalent of a few dollars/hour
    • They get paid by the number of shops they edit or schedule. Scheduling people to work for less than minimum wage is difficult.

What People Say: (From Glassdoor)

I worked at A Closer Look part-time

Pros

You can work from home

Cons

Basically everything. Schedulers have no days off not even 1. Expected to work 7 days a week 365 days a year. Responsible for “selling” shops to the shoppers for no pay reimbursement only.

I worked at A Closer Look full-time for more than a year

Pros

Working at home anywhere in the united states.

Cons

You will always be working at home. No days off ever low pay for the hours worked. They expect 7 days a week 365 days a year. If you complain they give you harder areas to work. High pressure negative environment. I honestly can’t say anything positive.
